How this works

Move: W A S D or the arrow keys. Hold shift to run. Space is a dash: a shove of three and a half tiles in the direction you are pushing, over before you can steer it. It works disguised too, and a crate that suddenly slides three tiles is a crate somebody will look at. Click to walk, in Settings on the front door, sends the cat to wherever you click or tap, finding its own way round things, always at a run. The keys take over the moment you touch them.
Breath: Hiders have a ring of it beside their head that shows while they sprint and until it has filled back up. Running spends it, about ten seconds' worth, and walking gets it back in about six. A dash costs a small slice of the ring at once, or whatever is left, so a dash can still be what empties you. Run it dry and you walk until a third of it is back. The seeker never tires, so in a straight chase the seeker wins: hide, do not race.
Fish: Two dozen lie about the map every round, for the hiders: a seeker walking over one gets nothing. Walk over one and it is yours, getting away as a hider pays forty, a catch as the seeker pays twelve, and a hider who is caught still gets three to fifteen for how long they lasted. A seeker who comes within three tiles of you and walks on pays you a fish for every second they are that close, and a seeker who walks into a fake gets one fish for it. Everything earned is announced under the banner, with the fish. The number in the corner is everything you have; log in and it is kept on your account, otherwise on this device. Careful: when a fish goes, everyone sees where it went from.
The shop: Between rounds everyone is in the shop: a walled garden with a market stall, fairies about it. Walk up to the counter and press F (Hide, on a phone). The stall sells power-ups, one use each and four of a kind at most; nothing bought makes a cat faster. Name plates, dash trail colours and new markings are sold under Extras beside the cat picker on the front door. The vote for the next map comes up over the shop.
Starting: Once there are two cats the round starts in ten seconds. Press Ready under the banner and, when everyone has, it starts at once. A cat walking in starts the ten seconds over. Ready is there in the shop too: the shop stays open until everyone has pressed it, and then the vote for the next map comes up, five seconds to pick and five for the wheel.
Power-ups: The hotbar along the bottom is what you hold. Every power-up is one use: buy as many as you like at the stall. In a round the bar shows every slot for your role in a fixed order, each with its own key printed on it, the same every round; a slot with nothing held is dark. Hiding: 1 Multiply (a dozen cats that look exactly like you, name and all, burst out and swarm around you for half a minute; the seeker has to pick, and a fake vanishes when touched), 2 Smoke bomb (a cloud eight tiles across where you stand for twenty seconds; the seeker sees nothing in it, a hider sees through it faintly), 3 Bear trap (ten fish, eight at most: left where you stand for the round; a seeker who steps in it is held five seconds, or less if they mash their way out, and the room is told; seekers only see traps on the beat, when they shake; hiders see them all). Seeking: Q Shuriken (five fish for ten, no ceiling: Q turns aiming on, the pointer becomes a crosshair, and a click throws a star at it, eight tiles or until it hits something; a hider it hits loses its disguise and is held two seconds; Q again stops aiming), 1 Pulse (every hider shudders now), 2 Burst (five seconds at dash pace), 3 Hunch (an arrow at your feet straight toward the nearest hider, once). The room is told when one is used.
On a phone: Put a thumb down anywhere on the left half of the screen and the stick appears under it. Drag to walk; push out to the edge and the ring turns gold, which is a run. The big green square on the right is Hide, and the small one above it is Dash. Menu, top right, has everything else.
Hide: Stand next to a bush, a tree, a crate, anything, and press F. You become it. A fake posing as a prop or another hider standing disguised counts too: you can become the same thing right beside it. Press F again to be a cat. You can still creep around while you are a bush, slowly.
Seek: One cat is it. They wait twenty seconds with their eyes shut while everyone scatters, then walk into whoever they can find. Anyone caught turns into a seeker too.
The shudder: Every thirty seconds every cat who is hiding shakes on the spot, wherever they are, silently. A barrel that twitches is a cat. The clock under the banner counts down to it and tells you in words whose turn it is, so you always get to pick your moment: move somewhere new, or sit tight and hope nobody was looking your way.
Afterwards: When the clock runs out the camera goes round everyone who got away and lights up where they were standing. Then the vote for the next map comes up.
Win: Still hidden when the three minutes run out. Three points. Catching someone is worth one.
Talk: Press enter, type, press enter again. Careful: it floats over your head.
Looks: Type /cat to change fur, markings and accessory.
Spectate: Step out of the round and follow whoever is it. You are off the map until the round is over, then you are back in for the next one, and nobody can see you meanwhile. You do not see the hiders either, until they are found: a spectator is not a second pair of eyes.
Next map: Between rounds you get three maps to choose from. Click one. Most votes wins, a tie is drawn at random, and the wheel picks it out in front of everybody.
Practise: Bottom left of the front door. Any map, alone: you are the hider, nobody is it, no clock, and every hider power-up without end, Multiply included. Fish there do not count.
